Just a 6-hr drive away from Vegas is… me, in Salt Lake City, where the MLM and “wellness” community is thriving, and where we’ve recently led the country in measles outbreaks. I think an interesting facet to this whole conversation is how many people are actively antagonistic to the medical industry in general. Many people here don’t trust a general doctor, but your neighbor’s sister who works as a doula and sells magic supplements, she’s the one to go to. I think my point is that the culture in the US, or at least my area of it, is so complicated in terms of how we relate to the medical system, and some of the justifiable concerns we have here about the cost and quality of care we can get have left us super vulnerable to marketing ploys like this.
