Very apt analogy Lauren, currently got some kind of virus now, day 2, had to call in sick 🤧 I smiled all the way through this, I absolutely love your posts 😀
Great analogy as always. I believe the facts as presented by science. I just gandered at a few photos of viruses taken with an electron microscope. Arguing that there’s no proof of viruses is like arguing that oxygen isn’t real just because chemistry is made up and we can’t see oxygen.
We don’t have to go around proving viruses are real, fortunately.
I also believe ghosts are real, for the record. I have plenty of personal experiences to back up my beliefs. I also don’t need to prove it to anyone else, so I’m quite fine in people thinking I’m nuts. But ghosts don’t need you to believe in them to be real, any more than viruses.
Perhaps I was a bit too closed minded…maybe one day the science will demonstrate that ghosts are real, I can accept that. I’m with you on the virus stuff though - my approach to this newsletter is that we take accepted scientific understanding as the factual foundation and there’s no need to prove it. Thanks for reading, and for the continued encouragement Tim- I really appreciate it.
Timely, Lauren, and interesting. Been laid low with a viral illness for 10+ days. Willing my body to deal with it quickly, please! Way too late for anti-virals!
This post just reads as: “Viruses are real, trust me bro, here’s a description of them I got from Wikipedia. Also, I couldn’t interact with the person in the street who opposed my view.” People want decent, logical proof to the understandable questions that have come to light over the last few years of experience. If you believe, make us believe. Explain to the man with the sign (and others) why they are wrong with actual evidence and answer their follow up questions. Maybe they do exist but you and many others have yet to prove it properly, along with contagion and proper isolation. Do a post that really shows this and people will be much more interested.
Thanks for reading and taking the time to give me feedback. I can appreciate how I’ve come across this way. My intention with this post isn’t really to convince people that viruses are real though, it’s to help those who do already understand the science that antivirals are limited in their impact and must be started early.
Your intention would work better if the article linked to a previous post proving your beliefs in ways that could be verified by others and thus led them to believe themselves. “Viruses are real, here’s my post on proving it. With included rebuttals to all questions”. Right now your post is akin to “We can fly, so you should all jump off a cliff.”

Viruses do love the change of seasons. Hope you feel better soon, and glad this could brighten your day at least a bit!
